Let me make sure I’ve got this absolutely right.

So, last week, according to Labour, the Conservatives were wrong not to breach a lawful contract by withholding Hester’s bonus, even though Hester had, as far as I can see, done nothing wrong. Today Labour accuse the Tories of being ‘tawdry’ in removing Fred Goodwin’s knighthood, even though he has done something wrong, albeit not illegal.

Seven weeks ago, Cameron was bestriding the scene like a colossus having used a veto, yet this week he’s sat meekly by whilst the others decide to use the mechanisms of the EU anyway.

Meanwhile Nick Clegg is nowhere to be seen, which at the moment would seem to make him the most sensible party leader about at the moment – some achievement.

Remind me again, what are these people for?
